     When you have difficulty understanding a new word, look at the context, the sentence around the word might tell the meaning

assume: believe without facts (verb)

   synonym: accept / conclude / consider

     Ahmed assumed his forgetful professor wouldn't remember their meeting

but the professor was already waiting for him in her office.

assess: look at before deciding (verb)

   synonym: appraise / check / determine

     Before buying a house, you should always assess the building carefully.

approach: move closer (verb)

   synonym: approximate / appropinquate / near

     The sing at the park said clearly “do not approach wild animals, they will bite!”

restrict: limit (verb)

   synonym: curb / decrease / define

     This parking area is restricted: only university students may use it.

substitute: replace (verb)

   synonym: acting / alternate / backup

     Because we didn’t have any ,we substituted the sugar with juice.
